1960-1966 Chevrolet LCF Trucks

In 1955 Chevrolet Trucks replaced the COE with a lower profile, short nosed design called the
Low Cab Forward (LCF). They are called Two-Ton Trucks most of the time, LCF's were rated
up to 26,000 lb GVW and run the tried and true Chevrolet six cylinder engine. The V8 engine
was also used in the later years.

Advantages of the LCF design was greater cargo area for a given wheelbase, more maneuverable, and
the high cab also gave drivers excellent visibility, a real plus in threading a truck through
city traffic. Also you could get a shorter truck if you used the same size bed as on regular
truck or with a fifth wheel. If you have a 2 Ton Truck and the hood will fit on a pick-up truck,
then it is not an LCF truck.

{Standard C60 Hood}{Chevrolet LCF Hood}

The LCF hood is shorter and will not fit a pick up. Also the cab is more forward making the whole
front end shorter, LCF stands for "Low Cab Forward" but I'm not too sure about that low part as
the cab on an L60 is taller than the regular C-60. but it is lower than on the older COE trucks
that came before it.

In 1960 the model number for an LCF truck started with the letter "L", there was many L-series
trucks: L50, L60, L70, & L80. The 1960-1962 Chevrolet L-series had the independent front
suspension. The 6-cylinder engine was standard, and the V8 optional. The engine in the L50
was the inline 235 cid Thriftmaster 6 or the 283 cid Trademaster V8, the L60 had the 261 cid
Jobmaster 6 or the 283 cid HD Taskmaster V8. The L70 &L80 came with the 348 cid Workmaster
V8. Also there was the U80 that came equipped with the 6V-53 Detroit Diesel.
