1955-1959 Chevy LCF & GMC F-Model Trucks

In 1955 Chevrolet replaced the COE with a lower profile, short nosed design called the Low Cab
Forward (LCF). GMC Had a truck like this as well but it was Just had an "F" added to the model
number, so I'm calling them F-models. They are called Two-Ton Trucks most of the time, LCF's
were rated up to 26,000 lb GVW & run the tried & true Chevrolet six cylinder engine. The V8
engine was also used in the later years. Of course the GMC used their own inline-6 or V8 engines.
Also some of the bigger truck had Detriot Diesels in them.

Advantages of the LCF design was greater cargo area for a given wheelbase, more maneuverable, & the
high cab also gave drivers excellent visibility, a real plus in threading a truck city traffic. Also
you could get a shorter truck if you used the same size bed as on regular truck or with a fifth wheel.

Some of the following pics came from the owners of the trucks, & some are photos taken by Jolly. Also
there are photos from Hank Suderman & the Collection of Ken Goudy. Click on their name to e-mail them.

How Michael found the COE was fate, as He had recently bought a 56 LCF in NW AZ (Yes-he have two)
he was showing pictures of his first one at the parts department of a Chevrolet dealership. One
of the guys said " there was one not 3 miles down the road!" He went directly there & found & talked
to the owner.....He had completed the brakes & bearings & tuned the motor.....it was NOT for sale but
neat seeing it & finding one so close to home. Well 2 months went the owner & he called to asked if
Michael wanted to buy it....But he had to wait a week as he gave the second owner the first chance to
buy. Michael drove it home 8 days later.
